THE AIRSPACE
- Mercer field is situated 11kms SE of Pukututu which is the highest point on the Bombay hills. Airfield information can be found at http://www.aip.net.nz/pdf/NZME.pdf.
It is important to note there are no overhead rejoins unless you like sky divers landing on you and as the airfield is in the centre of an MBZ, FRTO is mandatory.
Parachute operations are seven days a week weather permiting but there is plenty of room for everyone as long as a little bit of common sense is used.
There is a row off Toi Toi running the full length of the strip on the south side. In cross wind conditions these can cause severe wind gradient and or turbulence close to the ground.
The threashold on 09 grass is displaced by about 50 metres due to rough ground, take care. The seal is OK but has some small pot holes which may kick up
small stones, use the grass if you can.
In winter the grass gets very soft and the seal is the only run way to use also take care not to leave the seal when the ground is wet and soft, roll to the ends and turn in the bays, if in doubt ring or ask first.
